Plumbing EPA

What is an End Point Assessment or EPA for short

An EPA is as stated a final end assessment for your overall Plumbing Apprenticeship. A full-time plumbing and domestic heating technician apprentice typically spends 48 months on-programme (this means in training before the gateway). For a Gas Technician apprentice the typical apprenticeship is approximatly 18 months

The apprentice must spend at least 12 months on-programme and complete the required amount of off-the-job training in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.

The EPA should be completed within an EPA period lasting typically 6 months. The apprentice must complete their training and meet the gateway requirements before starting their EPA. The EPA will assess occupational competence.

An approved assessment centre for EPAs

An approved EPAO must conduct the EPA for this apprenticeship. Employers must work with the training provider to select an approved EPAO from the apprenticeship provider and assessment register (APAR). This is a core and options apprenticeship. An apprentice must be trained and assessed against the core and one option. The options are:

Options - v1.2 Standards

Option 1: domestic gas fired hot water heating appliances technician

Option 2: domestic air source heat pump and solar thermal systems technician

Option 3: non-domestic plumbing technician
